M&P SHIELD® EZ® PISTOL IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL NOTICE FOR PISTOLS MANUFACTURED BETWEEN MARCH 1ST, 2020 AND OCTOBER 31ST, 2020

November 24, 2020

Smith & Wesson has identified two M&P Shield EZ Pistols on which the hammers manufactured by our supplier were cracked.  In those firearms, the hammer failed to fully engage the sear, causing the round to fire, cycling the slide, and potentially resulting in multiple discharges without depressing the trigger.  This issue can occur in the following two scenarios:

  1. With a loaded magazine in the firearm and the grip safety depressed, releasing the slide (by pulling it back, or releasing the slide stop), may ignite the round as the slide closes, without engaging the trigger.  The condition may occur, regardless of the manual thumb safety position if equipped.  This may also result in multiple discharges.

  2. With a loaded magazine in the firearm, the grip safety depressed, manual safety in the fire position, slide closed, and a round in the chamber, pulling the trigger will cause the round to fire normally, however as the slide cycles, the next round may be ignited as it is chambered by the hammer failing to fully engage the sear, causing multiple discharges.

In all cases, the firearm will NOT fire unless the grip safety is depressed.  While this condition has been found only in two hammers, and our investigation suggests that these two incidents are very isolated, any unintended discharge of a firearm has the potential to cause injury.  Therefore, we have established this Safety Recall as a precautionary measure to ensure that all M&P Shield EZ Pistols in service meet our design specifications.

We Welcome Gusnmith: Davis Charles

January 7, 2020

My interest in firearms began in my local 4-H shooting sports program. There I learned the importance of firearm safety, wildlife conservation, and built my first muzzle loading rifle. Next I started finding every broken firearm available so I could tear it down, learn the inner workings, and repair it. I took a two-year course in advanced gunsmithing with Modern Gun School, taught by a gunsmith with decades of experience in the field, on graduated in Jan. 2020. I still to this day love finding the broken misfits, to repair them back to factory original, learning what makes them ‘tick’, and promoting firearm safety and wildlife conservation.

Five Firearms Safety Tips to Practice This Holiday Season

December 20, 2018

The holidays are here, and family and friends across the country will soon gather in celebration of the season. December comes with an added focus on safety, as children spend more time at home and families prepare to host guests or visit loved ones. Fire prevention and travel safety are usually top-of-mind during this time of year, but it’s equally important to practice firearms safety.

“As more children are home over the holidays, there’s a greater chance they may encounter or handle a gun without supervision, posing a risk of accidental harm to themselves or others,” said National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) CEO Steve Sanetti. “The holidays are an important time to emphasize responsible firearms storage, and Project ChildSafe has a wealth of educational materials available to help gun owners and their families practice firearms safety during the holiday season.”

This year, consider adding a new tradition to your safety checklist with a review of firearms safety practices. Click here for your safety checklist.

Hunt S.A.F.E. to Prevent Firearm Accidents

October 14, 2018

Proper firearm storage is the number one way to prevent firearm accidents.  With this in mind Allen-Giles Arms is working with the National Shooting Sports Foundation to remind hunters that “The Hunt Isn’t Over Until You Are S.A.F.E.”

S.A.F.E. stands for Secure your firearms when not in use; Be Aware of those around you who should not have unauthorized access to firearms; Focus on your responsibility as a firearm owner and Educate yourself and others about safe firearm handling and storage.

The hunting season is a time of year when a lot of firearms are in use and in transport, so we urge hunters to remember what they can do to prevent firearm accidents in the field, at the range, at home and everywhere in between.

To complement Indiana’s hunter safety programs and provide you with additional resources on proper firearm storage and safety, the National Shooting Sports Foundation, as part of its Project ChildSafe program, has made several resources available, which can be found THE PROJECT CHILDSAFE WEBSITE, including:

The idea is to help everyone hunt responsibly, return home safe, and securely store their unloaded firearms. Together we can help prevent firearm accidents.

Allen-Giles Arms Joins Push to Encourage Firearm Owners to Own It? Respect It. Secure It.

June 13, 2018

Frankfort, IN – Allen-Giles Arms today announced its involvement in the Own It? Respect It. Secure It. (ORS) Initiative SM to help raise the public’s consciousness on the issue of firearm safety and responsibility through the core message: “Store Your Firearms Responsibly.” To generate awareness around this important message, Allen-Giles Arms is committed to spreading this message every way we can to our customers and community.

“Through the ORS Initiative, we want to reach as many people as possible with this message to encourage safe and responsible firearm storage,” said Scott Charles, President of Allen-Giles Arms. “Our goal is to make proper firearm storage as second nature as keeping medicine in child-resistant containers. And with the ORS Initiative, we can have a positive impact in helping to prevent accidents and unauthorized use of firearms.”

The ORS Initiative, created by the National Shooting Sports Foundation, is built on the firearm industry’s long-standing commitment to safety and has been developed to give industry members an ongoing platform to promote and encourage firearm safety and storage. It also serves to enhance and amplify the messages of ongoing safety and education campaigns such as Project ChildSafe®, which has distributed more than 36 million free firearm safety kits to gun owners through partnerships with law enforcement agencies in all 50 states and five U.S. territories.

“Storing your firearms responsibly is a simple but vitally important message, and we are pleased to have Allen-Giles Arms support for this Initiative,” said Steve Sanetti, NSSF president and CEO. “Together with all our industry partners we can be powerful messengers in encouraging firearm owners to respect their firearm and store it responsibly when not in use.”

In the coming weeks and months, consumers and participants in the shooting sports will begin seeing the ORS message in brochures, on packaging, in advertising, social media and at retail counters.

Allen-Giles Arms and Montana X-Treme

May 22, 2018

Over the years I’ve seen a lot of cleaning patches turn from black to white and was proud that my firearms were clean. Not till recently did I know how wrong I was until after bore-scoping one of my most accurate of firearms.

I’ve tried all kinds of different cleaning products, chemicals and methods, none of which perform to my standards, so I was on a warpath to make my firearms clean, and in my findings, no company has surpassed what Montana X-Treme has had to offer.

Their cleaning products remove all carbon and copper fouling quickly, but is still soft on the bore. I’m proud to have found something as impressive as Montana X-Treme, and can now go from ½ MOA back to ¼ MOA.

As Director of Customer Service and Lead Gunsmith, I recommended Montana X-Treme be exclusively used by Allen-Giles Arms…because I not only want the best for my personal firearms, but expect the same for our customers, and because Allen-Giles Arms is ‘Devoted to Firearms Excellence,’ we now exclusively use Montana X-Treme.
